Traditional Spanish Easter Bread
Mona Pascual is a bread served at Easter in the provinces of Valencia, Cataluña, Aragon, the Balearic islands and some areas of Murcia. It is a rich cake like bread served to signify the end of Lent. Traditionally it is shaped like a snake although nowadays you normally see it as a figure 8. It contains a dyed egg cooked in it's shell and is decorated with hundreds and thousands. It is considered good luck to crack the egg in front of another person. |
